It occupied 90 acres of land in East Charlotte, bounded by Central Avenue, Sharon Amity Road, and Wilora Lake Road. It closed in 2010, and the City of Charlotte acquired the property and demolished the buildings. On May 18, 2017, the City invited residents to an informational meeting and party on the site of the old mall. Visitors made art on the parking lot surface, rode on free bicycles, and exchanged ideas and memories with representatives of city government and each other.   Thomas Hanchett, retired historian of the Levine Museum of the New South, conducted oral history interviews. He is pictured here interviewing Louise Woods, former Board of Education member and resident of the East side. 000001754 6531_ $$aEastland Mall, city planning 000001754 7001_ $$aThomas Cole 000001754 8564_ $$9a8eb5572-279a-4afa-944a-2c4f3348dfdd$$s1926329$$uhttps://vault.cmlibrary.org/record/1754/files/IMG_1713.JPG 000001754 901__ $$aIMG_1729.jpg (1.08 MB), IMG_1713.JPG (1.84 MB), IMG_1712.JPG (1.15 MB), IMG_1710.JPG (1.3 MB), IMG_1709.JPG (2.55 MB) 000001754 904__ $$a2448 pixels 000001754 905__ $$a3264 pixels 000001754 982__ $$aHistorical Events
