Description

Exterior photographs of the United States Rubber Company's Charlotte Plant. The plant was responsible for creating munitions for the U.S. Army and U.S. Navy during World War II. Locally called the “Shell Plant,” the plant was located 10 miles south of Charlotte's city limits in 1943 on York Road, in the Steele Creek area of Mecklenburg County. The land is now part of Charlotte and is located near the southeast corner of the intersection of Westinghouse Boulevard and South Tryon.
