Herbert V. Brockmann (1892-1949) opened Brockmann's Bookstore in May of 1915.  Two years later, his brother Charles R. Brockmann (1888-1970) took over for Herbert who served in the Army during World War I, and ran the shop until 1927. The store was famous for selling books, stationery, toys, novelties, magazines, office supplies as well as framing and engraving services. Brockmann went onto become the Assistant Director of the Charlotte Public Library. In 1956, he served as the first manager of the Carolina Room, which is today known as the Robinson-Spangler Carolina Room.   Image Year: 1916,  Physical Description: 8x10,  Category: Hornet's Nest,  Format: Albumen Print,  Image Negative: 1,  Print: 1,  Donor: Unknown,  Copyright: Charlotte Mecklenburg Library,  Publisher: Unknown,  Photographer: Clyde Osborne 000000882 7001_ $$aBernadette Hoyle 000000882 8564_ $$9eac52eb9-8dd7-4767-8f17-a5a8539ef5de$$s17947$$uhttps://vault.cmlibrary.org/record/882/files/H_2000_01_145_12.jpg 000000882 901__ $$aH_2000_01_145_12.jpg (243.02 KB) 000000882 982__ $$aHornet's Nest
