Description

This this institutions was erected and opened in 1859 under the leadership of Daniel Harvey "D.H." Hill (1821-1889). Designed to prepare young men for what Hill believed was the inevitable war. Located at the corner of South Boulevard and Morehead Street. During the war, the facility was used as a hospital. In 1873, it became the Charlotte Military Institute. Many locals referred to it as the D. H. Hill School. In 1883, the building was the site of the first public graded school in Charlotte. It was demolished in 1954.
